History

CLUJ INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION is the new name of the woodwind section of the ”Gheorghe Dima” International Music Competition, one of the most important recent music competitions in Europe.

The ”Gheorghe Dima” Music Competition was started in 1984 by the ”Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy and ran continuously for twelve editions. After a gap of thirteen years, the competition was revived and between 2011 and 2017 it was dedicated to woodwind instruments. The last four editions marked a leap forward for the competition`s international recognition, with some of the most important performers in the world as jury members and a large number of contestants from all over the globe.

Ambitious from the start, the competition has grown steadily into a complex event, offering a rich experience, both for contestants and the public. The two symphonic concerts and the free master classes with members of the jury are now a given of the competition.
